Meeting someone in person
Plan the first meeting so you stay in control of where you go, how you leave, and who knows your plans.
Before you meet
- Choose a populated public place and meet there independently.
- Tell a trusted person where you are going and when you expect to return.
- Arrange your own transportation and keep your phone charged.
- Consider a brief voice or video call before meeting.
During the meeting
- Keep personal belongings and drinks with you.
- Leave whenever you feel uncomfortable—you do not need to explain or be polite.
- Do not rely on someone you just met for transportation or a place to stay.
Afterward
If something concerning happened, write down what you remember, preserve relevant messages, and report the account. Contact local emergency services for immediate danger.
